Glad to see someone is thinking long-term in this market…
From a random sell-side investment research paper that crossed my desk:
This monthly report is designed to highlight trading opportunities we believe are likely to unfold in the short-term (i.e., over the next 30 days). Factors taken into consideration for our short-term recommendations include recent price performance, valuation, basic technical analysis, and upcoming catalysts during this time frame. Critically, our short-term ideas are separate from our longer-term investment ratings…which reflect our views over the next 6-12 months. [emphasis added]
It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached a point in the markets where having a long-term view means having an opinion on what will happen in the next 6-12 months. Not to bag on the sell-side analyst who put this particular report together. On the contrary, the report is actually well done. It’s concise, it’s got a reasonable action plan, and even does a good job of outlining the fact that this report is not for everyone.
It’s just a shame to see so much effort put into chasing the ticker moment-to-moment.
